We frequently explore quilting techniques with younger children (K-6) as a teaching tool. In most cases, the children create blocks using fabric markers or paint, or by cutting out small pieces of material and attaching them to the block with pins. Many of them tell a story, offer a self-portrait, or seek to convey an emotion. Then the master quilters complete the quilt by sewing down appliqué material and assembling and quilting the complete article. This intergenerational activity helps to inspire children and support the continuation of a community tradition of quilting. It also produces unique and intriguing insights into the creativity of children.

Since these handcrafted collaborations with children are one-of-a-kind items, all are subject to prior sale. Although we cannot offer custom orders on collaborations with children, we can create a custom quilt using children's fabric art that you supply. To explore the possibilities call us at 601-437-8905.
