What is Comfort My Soul?

The Comfort My Soul Celebration of Gospel Music returns for its 2026 installment on Saturday, September 12, 2026, bringing a powerful day of faith, community, and musical heritage to historic downtown Port Gibson. The theme for this year's landmark event is "Legends and Legacy: The Soul and Service of Quartet Gospel Music," celebrating the rich history, harmonies, and spiritual impact of traditional gospel quartet singing across Southwest Mississippi.

Special Honorees for this event include Bro. Lee Dell Buck of Claiborne County, Bro. Jerome Myles of Adams County, Sis. Kathleen McGriggs of Hinds County, and Bro. Fred Hall Hudson of Warren County. Bro. Edward Carter, Sr., long time radio angel, event promoter and group organizer, will also be recognized.

The Legends Brunch and Awards Celebration will kick off a full day of gospel music related activities. Tickets for the Brunch are $30, seating is limited so get yours early! The afternoon activities are FREE and open to the public, including a City of Churches tour, a Musical Fun and Games Experience, dinner on your own at local eateries in Port Gibson, and a Gospel Concert to closeout a fabulous day of celebration.

Meet the Honorees

This year we celebrate gospel music with a grand salute to the soaring harmonies, rhythmic progressions and energetic delivery styles that form the distinctive flavor of Gospel Quartet Music. Four well known quartet singers from counties in Southwest MS, plus a beloved promoter and radio angel comprise this cohort of honorees. Each of these dedicated individuals has a unique story of their journey in gospel music and service to their communities.

9:30am Doors open \|\| Registration Mix and mingle with old and new friends, pick up your conference materials, etc.
10am Celebration and Awards Program Begins Presentations and performances that highlight the timeline, evolution and impact of quartet music.

12:00 Noon Award Ceremony Honorees Recognized
12:30pm Honoree Panel Discussion In their own words, hear the honorees speak candidly about their musical journey down through the years.

Afternoon Activities FREE to the public. Register and join the fun. Your time in Port Gibson is sure to be a "rewarding" experience!
1:00pm (After the Awards Brunch) City of Churches Tour Find out how Port Gibson claimed this title and visit a few of the historic churches along Church Street. You will enjoy hearing the stories of each house of worship and how gospel and sacred music impact our lives even today.
1:00pm (Also After the Brunch) Musical Fun and Games Oh the fun we'll have! It might be Name That Tune, or BINGO, Karaoke, Trivia or something totally unexpected. Laughter is good for the soul. And of course, where there are games, there are also prizes!
5:00pm On Your Own There are many things to see and do in Port Gibson, including our murals, parks, historic markers, and of course our restaurants and food trucks! Whether you just want something light, or you are in the mood for a sit down meal, we've got you covered!
7:00pm Gospel Concert Mercy Seat M. B. Church located on Highway 547 will be the concert destination. Travel down memory lane to enjoy an old school quartet concert featuring an Honoree Showcase and a special appearance by The Kaiser Singers from Yazoo City!
